A strange brand on the forearm of most Banished.

Qualities

A black, smudged mark in the vague form of a deer skull. It feels smooth to its owner’s touch, like charcoal on paper, and occasionally thrums, heard only in the quietest moments. Some say they see faces in the inky black if they stare at it.

There is a rumour amongst the Banished that branded folk are rescued if they survive long enough on the Isles, as their knowledge of the lands is valuable.

Branding

After an individual is confirmed to become a Banished via Tribunal, they are taken to a Registry (referred to as the Offshop by many), where their name is struck off the register, and they are subsequently branded.

Arcane Effects

Not much is known by the general public about its arcane effects. Some say that it is simply a mark to distinguish the Banished from normal folk, but there are rumours that they exist for more nefarious purposes, such as tracking where the Banished go, or even seeing through their eyes.

Origin

Unknown. The Immortals never speak of it, and it doesn’t have a listed origin in the Scripture.
